This study aims to introduce a modeling and simulation approach for a green roof system that can reduce the energy costs of a building exposed to high temperatures during the summer season. First, to understand the impact of green roofs on buildings, a study was conducted in Commerce, Texas, USA, where the maximum temperature in summer is 104 °F (40 °C). Two types of analysis were performed: (1) comparison of temperature among different plant species using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and (2) polynomial regression analysis to develop a model to estimate the effect of heat based on air temperature and the presence of a green roof. . In addition, an agent-based simulation (ABS) model was developed using AniLogic.
University Simulation Software 8.6.0, Chicago, IL, USA, to accurately estimate the energy costs and benefits of a building with a green-photovoltaic roof system. The proposed methodology was applied to estimate the cost of energy reduction for the Keith D Science Building. McFarland at Texas A&M University, Commerce, Texas (33.2410° N, 95.9104° W). As environmental sustainability has become an important issue in improving our quality of life, the development of green buildings in cities is attracting attention across the country. A green house is not only an energy efficient house but also a green house. An example of a plant-based building is a green roof with live plants on top of the building’s roof sheathing. Since the green roof protects against excessive solar radiation [1, 2, 3], it improves the thermal efficiency and energy efficiency of the building [1, 2, 3, 4].
In addition to thermal performance, the hydrological performance of green roofs has been proven in the tropical region of Singapore . In the study, evapotranspiration (ET) was modeled using an artificial neural network (ANN) consisting of multilayer perceptron regressors. Chagolla-Aranda et al.  investigated the effects of green roofs with five plants (i.e. Sedum adolphii, Echeveria prolifica, Aeonium subplanum, Crassula ovata and Sedum Makinoi) in Mexico. Special studies have found that the power consumption of green roof cells can be lower than that of conventional roof cells in semi-hot climates. On the other hand, Schade et al.  investigated the performance of a green roof on a building in Sweden. In the study, green roofs functioned as building insulation materials in subarctic climates. In addition, since plants grow in the soil, green roofs are also recognized as a new option to mitigate urban storm/rainwater runoff [8, 9].
Green roofs (or vegetated roofs) can be classified as intensive, semi-intensive or extensive according to the average planting depth. A dense green roof requires planting material at least 1 meter to 3 meters deep and can support the growth of trees and shrubs, while a wide green roof is thinner and can support established plants such as grass and sedum . Thick green roofs can effectively protect buildings from direct sunlight, but building protection requires careful monitoring because the weight of the soil cannot be neglected [11, 12]. Therefore, a green cover of less than 6 centimeters is accepted in practice .

Although a large amount of green information can lead to the cooling of the building due to its ability to block direct solar radiation through the information and plants, the actual effect on the temperature of ‘the building can vary in different places and the height of the plant . Widespread green media may not be effective in reducing building energy consumption from exposure to high temperatures. Therefore, further studies in other high-temperature conditions are needed to develop green roof evaluation and evaluation models that still require high costs .
